The picture is taken in my friend’s house on Chinese New Year’s Eve this year (Feb.13 2010). For Chinese people, this is a special day for friends and family to reunite and celebrate.
The picture captures the moment when my friend Rachel put our self-made stuffing consisting of minced beef and chopped celery on a dumpling wrapper. Dumpling is a traditional dish eaten during Chinese New Year’s Eve, and family members gather together to make dumplings.
Even though I am thousands of miles away from my home, just like many other Chinese students here at CMU, we have our unique way of celebrating this festival. As time goes by, strangers become friends, and friends become members of the “Big Family”.
