Can you attend a US college with a GED?
That’s the question we recently received from a writer from Bangladesh.
The answer? Yes, it certainly is possible to get accepted at US colleges with a GED!
But if you have a GED (also known as a high school equivalency diploma), don’t limit yourself to applying only to universities. Also apply to colleges and community colleges in order to have the best chance of being admitted to an American institution of higher learning.
If the college you want to attend doesn’t address GEDs on its website, ask an admissions officer if there are any special requirements you must meet.
Remember: whether you have a high school diploma or GED, you likely still will have to take the SAT or ACT. If English isn’t your native language, chances are you also will have to take a proficiency test such as the TOEFL.
