If you are thinking about studying in the USA, you are not alone. International students at colleges and universities in the USA are getting more and more company, according to a report released today by the Institute of International Education.

The number of international students in the USA is at an all-time high, the report says. The number jumped 7% to 623,805. The previous high was 586,323 in 2002/2003.

According to IIE, this increase in international students can partly be attributed to actions by the US state department. In the last year, the department has supported after-school English classes in many countries as well as advising students around the world so they can learn more about educational opportunities in the USA.

For the seventh year in a row, India is the home of most international students in the USA. India posted a 13% increase with a total of 94,563 students.

China was number two, with 81,127 students (a 20% increase), and South Korea was third, with 69,124 students (a 11% increase).

Most international students in the USA study in the states of California, New York or Texas. The most popular cities are New York City and Los Angeles.
