Want an internship next summer? It’s not too soon to start your job search.
Many companies have formal internship or job programs, and the deadlines to apply could be soon. Even if the deadline isn’t for several months, you should find out if applicants must meet certain requirements or supply something specific, such as a portfolio of work you have done.
If you are an international student at a college in America, you also should ask your international student services office about rules and regulations you must meet in order to work while a student in the US.
Then what?
2. Attend any job fairs that your college hosts. These are excellent ways for businesses to introduce themselves to college students– and excellent ways for you to introduce yourself to them. Remember to bring several copies of your resume.
3. Find out where other college students with your major have found a job. But don’t limit your search to these places only. Contact companies or organizations where you can not only learn a lot, but also contribute your own talents. And remember: You may face less competition for a job at a small business but learn just as much (or more).
On-the-job experience is growing more and more important as college students enter an increasingly competitive market after graduation. Start your search for a job early to find the best one for you.
