What makes you glad you decided to study abroad?
That’s the question we asked college students, and we got answers from around the world – in photographic form.
Thank you to everyone who entered, as well as to everyone who voted on their favorite entries in each of the 5 rounds of the contest! After much consideration, the judges have finally chosen the 3 scholarship winners from the 15 finalists:
- Winner: Ava Macchiaverna, class of 2013 at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. (Photo taken in Interlaken, Switzerland.)

University Language awarded a $500 college scholarship to Macchiaverna, the grand prize winner, and $100 scholarships to the 2nd and 3rd prize winners. Check back with our blog over the coming weeks for profiles on each of the three winners.
We also congratulate the 12 college students who were awarded honorable mention, whose entries ranged from photos of Iceland to Kenya to Japan to the United Arab Emirates.
We here at University Language hope these photos inspire all students who are planning to study abroad and are preparing to embark on the adventure!
