There are plenty of things to do before you graduate from high school, and they do not involve academics.
Now that your GPA, test scores and college applications are practically set in stone, it is time to focus on some important things to do before you graduate. Most of the recommended tasks involve having fun and socializing with other seniors, so it shouldn’t be too hard to follow the list!
1. Participate in Activities for Seniors
Many high schools plan several activities just for seniors, especially during the last couple of months of school. Instead of holding back, you should take advantage of the free, fun events that are usually held.
For example, your high school might have a water day for seniors, featuring a water balloon fight and other fun activities that let you cool off as the summer nears. This means that one of the best things to do before you graduate is wear your bathing suit under your clothes at school and get ready to enjoy water day!
Of course, the same goes for any other senior activities at your high school. Other examples include a special breakfast or lunch for seniors only, or an ice cream party. If your school has a tradition of encouraging the seniors to go in on a big prank, consider doing it, provided it’s safe.
2. Go to Prom
Another thing you should do before you graduate high school is go to prom. If you have a date in mind, you probably already planned on going, and you may be looking forward to the traditional limo and fancy dinner before the dance.
However, even if you do not have a date, go with your friends! As a senior, it is your time to let loose and have fun with classmates for possibly the last time until the night of graduation.
If you are worried about what some students might think when you show up without a date, realize that anyone who even notices shouldn’t matter. After all, you will probably never see the underclassmen again, and your classmates should be having too much fun themselves to notice who has a date.
What everyone, including you, will remember is that the seniors shared a memorable night of dancing and laughing weeks before graduation. You rarely get the chance to go to dances with your peers once you graduate from high school, so you should enjoy prom.
3. Improve Your Relationships
We’ve saved the toughest for last. If you know someone does not like you, work on repairing that relationship before you graduate. Whether or not you know the reason for the animosity, you should offer to apologize and start over.
The worst that can happen is the person does not accept your apology, in which case you will not see him or her much longer anyway. However, most people are willing to put the past behind them if you make the first move.
You may make a new friend to keep in touch with even after high school. Even if it turns out you still don’t get along after the apology, at least you will know you tried your best to get rid of the hostility.
If you have not made any enemies, one of the best things to do before you graduate is try to make new friends so that your classmates can remember you as being generally positive and friendly. Plus, you never know who you will end up seeing in college or at your first post-college job, so it helps to end your high school career on a good note.
