Attention prospective college students: What does college mean to you?

Get out your camera when you visit colleges this year and you could win a $500 scholarship from University Language Services just for answering that question.

You may be surprised by what campus sights resonate with you! The library at sunset, a group of freshmen mingling outside of the student center, a rustic residence hall – we want to see anything that invokes feelings of excitement and anticipation about your future.

Snap a photo of anything that makes you feel like you’ve finally entered the college atmosphere. Send it to us along with a description of no more than 200 words about why your photo symbolizes college for you. Submit your entry here.

Here’s how the contest works:

The contest will be split into 5 rounds during which you can submit your photo.

After each round, we’ll post the 8 best submissions on our website. Then you and other visitors to our site can vote for your favorite! The 3 photos with the highest number of votes will become the finalists for that round.

Here are the dates you need to know:

Photos Submitted By: Vote Between:
Round One: Aug. 15, 2012 Aug. 20-27, 2012
Round Two: Aug. 29, 2012 Sept. 4-11, 2012
Round Three: Sept. 12, 2012 Sept. 17-24, 2012
Round Four: Sept. 26, 2012 Oct. 1-8 2012
Round Five: Oct. 10, 2012 Oct. 15-22, 2012

All photos must be submitted by 11:59 a.m. EST on the dates listed above.

After the final round, the scholarship winners will be chosen from the finalists by a panel of judges. First place takes the $500 scholarship, while second and third places will each receive a $100 scholarship!

Keep in mind that photos do not need to be taken during the round they are submitted, but they must be taken by you!

In addition, please submit only one photo. The photo you submit is eligible for not only the round it is submitted, but all subsequent rounds as well, so do not submit more than once.

But hurry: The deadline to enter is October 10!

Check out the official rules and regulations before submitting your entry.

Then, take a look at last year’s winners to get some ideas of the kind of photo you can enter, but don’t be afraid to think outside of the box!
